train and equip three churches to
start their own disability outreach
programmes, and by the end of the
year we had 33 churches ac琀椀vely
engaged in disability outreach.
The central philosophy of Stronger Together is that “disability ministry” is most e昀昀ec琀椀ve when it is
incorporated into exis琀椀ng church
ministries rather than standing as
a dis琀椀nct, isolated programme. By
harnessing the exis琀椀ng enthusiasm
of a congrega琀椀on, we can expand
their reach to include the marginalised. For example:
• If a church supports single mothers, we help them 昀椀nd and include
mothers with children who have
disabili琀椀es.
• If they have a heart for youth educa琀椀on, we work to include children with special needs.
• If they support the impoverished,
we focus on those who are both
des琀椀tute and disabled.
This strategy sidesteps the typical
roadblocks of star琀椀ng new programmes, such as the need for
new personnel, complex approval
processes, or the heavy alloca琀椀on
of limited resources. Furthermore,
it ensures sustainability. When a
ministry is “owned” by the local
church, it gains staying power and
emo琀椀onal investment from the
congrega琀椀on. Conversely, programmes perceived as being
owned by external agencies o昀琀en
die out as soon as outside funding
dries up.
Since that 昀椀rst year, this ministry
and its reach con琀椀nue to grow at
an astonishing rate that both excites and in琀椀midates us. Hundreds
of people have accepted Christ as
their Saviour, which is unlike anything we have ever seen in Thailand before! We are both excited
and in琀椀midated by what we see
year a昀琀er year. There are currently
more than 50 churches who have
applied to be part of Stronger Together’s outreach programme,
currently wai琀椀ng for the support
and resources needed to serve the
families in their communi琀椀es. We
desperately need your help and
support to carry on this mission
and keep this momentum going! It
feels as though we are on the precipice of a drama琀椀c shi昀琀 within the
church of Thailand, and we cannot
wait to see what God has in store
next.
